Preventative dentistry
Preventing problems occurring, rather than treating them when they arise, is what preventative care is all about. A simple routine of brushing and cleaning between teeth to remove plaque, plus good eating habits and regular dental check-ups, can prevent most dental problems.
A few small lifestyle changes are very simple to make in your daily routine and can make a big difference in the long run, as can regular visits to a dental hygienist who will check your teeth for signs of decay and gum disease, before giving them a thorough clean. All teeth are different; some people, for example, are more prone to gum problems than others, and this is where our hygienist can advise on how to treat your teeth at home.
Visit your dentist for regular check-ups, try to have less sugary and acidic food and avoid snacking between meals as this limits the time your teeth are under attack from acids. Chewing sugar free-gum for ten minutes after meals helps to neutralise acids.
Your dentist and denal therapist/hygienist will show you which areas you need to take most care of when cleaning your teeth.
