Visiting the hygienist
Dental hygienists are specially trained to work with the dentist in giving care to patients.
They play an important role in dental health care and are mainly concerned with gum health, showing people the correct home care and applying preventative materials to the teeth and gums. They also professionally clean the patients teeth. This is usually called scaling and polishing. However, perhaps the most important role is to educate patients on how to keep their teeth free of plaque. They also give advice on diet and preventing dental decay. The hygienist works with the dentist to provide a tailored package to meet your individual needs.
- ½ hour appointments
- oral health instruction
- scale and polish (hand and ultrasonic)
- removal of calculus (tartar)
- dentures professionally cleaned
Regular professional cleaning combined with looking after your own teeth and gums well at home will keep your mouth healthy. A clean and healthy mouth will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth and give you fresh breath.
Depending on the condition of your gums and teeth, a number of appointments may be necessary to get the gums healthy and also in preperation for the dentist to retore teeth with crowns and fillings.
